- How Adsense increases traffic on your website
Friday, 1 February 2013
Adsense is a means of working with an affiliate
network. It is a program that allows you to put adverts on your website, which
you are then paid for. People use a means called AdWords to install adverts on
your website--these adverts link back to their website. Basically there are two
types of AdWords. There are ones where you may pay for clicks (PPC) and ones
where you may pay for actions (PPA). If you are the webmaster then these are
the functions that you are paid for via Adsense.
The cold truth
Having Adsense (adverts running on your website) will
not increase traffic to your website. It will decrease the amount of traffic
coming to your website. It will also increase your bounce rate. Your bounce
rate is the number of people who take one look at your website and then click
off of it.
The tepid truth
The amount of money you are liable to make via
affiliate programs is not likely to be worth the effort of signing up for the
program and installing it on your site.
The lukewarm truth
It is logical to assume that Google will punish the
appearance of third party affiliate adverts, whilst rewarding people who use
Adsense affiliate adverts. Therefore, there is a potential traffic benefit to
using Adsense over other affiliate programs (even if it is only a small
benefit).
The warm truth
Adsense is run by Google and the team there is well
aware that running adverts on your website is going to have a drag effect on
your search engine ranking. They know that if you put adverts on your website
that it will take longer to load and people will be put off by the appearance
of adverts. They also know that Adsense is going to increase your bounce rate,
which will make your website less frequently attended by loyal viewers.
In response to this the Adsense team has set up
tutorials to help you increase the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of your
website, and have created a few tools to help you increase your websites SEO
value and lower bounce rate.
The steamy truth
The drag effect caused by Adsense is probably not
enough to damage your websites SEO, since your current SEO efforts are probably
not effective enough to land you on the first page of Google’s search engine
results. There is little point in worrying about the drag effect that Adsense
has on your SEO or your online reputation when you probably have far more
pressing issues that dragging your SEO and online reputation down.
The hot truth
As said on the previous point, your website probably
already has SEO problems and online reputation problems that hold it back. It
is unlikely that you are receiving large numbers of traffic and unlikely that
you are commonly seen on the front page of Google’s search engine results.
People who install Adsense find that their traffic numbers increase. Why?
Because they have a financial incentive to crank up their SEO efforts. They
have a financial reason to promote their website and improve their on-page SEO.
They have a financial incentive to learn more about content marketing and SEO.
They have a financial incentive to improve the quality of their website. And as
you may know, a financial incentive is often a good enough reason to do just
about anything!
The odd truth
It is the financial incentive offered by Adsense that
causes a change in the webmaster. All of a sudden--the web traffic of their
website shoots upwards in their list of priorities. The affiliate program known
as Adsense does not offer any traffic benefits, and yet the people who sign up
to it will often see a marked increase in their traffic numbers within just a
few months.
